Flashpoint
Right from the beginning, this dynamic overture explodes with intensity and rhythmic drive. Commissioned by District 8 of the Michigan State Band and Orchestra Association, John Moss uses angular melodies and biting ensemble punctuations to provide grit and character to this tour de force for wind band. For contrast, a slow middle section features rich harmonies and sonorous melodies before a reprise of the opening dynamic themes. Throughout the work an active percussion score supports and augments the overall dramatic effect. Dur: 6:15SKU: HL04002647 -

Flight of the Condor
This driving original by Mark Williams depicts the flight of the majestic condor along the rugged Pacific coast. Once common, but now endangered, this bird’s lonely travels are reflected in the minor tone of this exciting work for young band. Cast in ABA form, a brief slow middle section is followed by a return to the brilliant “Allegro vivo” of the opening. Punctuated by strong horn/sax lines and syncopated percussion figures, this selection is destined to become a favorite of students and audiences.

Flight of the Flutes
The flute section takes front and center to display their finger dexterity in this novel James D. Ployhar original tune. The flutists are sometimes overlooked as they provide the filigree to many instrumental works. Mix it up and let them be the focus of attention with this feature.SKU: AL26752 -

Flight of the Piasa
“Flight of the Piasa” was written to depict the majesty of the legendary Piasa, an enormous winged creature, and the bravery of the Illini tribe who triumphed over its reign of terror. The discovery of the Piasa dates to 1673, when the cliff drawing painted high on the bluffs was first seen by Marquette during his famous journey down the Mississippi River. (5:10)“‘Flight of the Piasa’ is a very effective piece of music that is superbly crafted by a composer who really does understand the limitations and playing capabilities of student musicians.”

Floating Home
It’s a jazz-reggae groove composed and arranged by Gordon Goodwin for the Big Phat Band. Lead alto sax is written for soprano sax, and solos are available for soprano, alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone. Floating Home is not technically difficult but the lead trumpet range is a challenge, as you would expect with Gordon’s charts. This is a somewhat mellow chart but has energy and punches. As performed by the Big Phat Band. (1:27)SKU: AL30656 -

Flutopia
Section features have long been a favorite medium for both performers and audiences, as they create the opportunity to showcase the talent of particular instrument groups within bands. Since many of today’s ensembles have a ‘healthy’ number of flutes, this charming composition focuses the proverbial spotlight on these musicians. It’s an absolute winner! Flying Colors Third Movement of A Tribute to Arthur Delamont
Imagine a band far off in the distance marching toward you – soft at first, the music becomes louder and louder; the red capes of the band sway in the wind, getting closer and closer. It was this image that inspired Flying Colors. Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a march in his concerts, and the hallmark of his band was their red capes. The work begins very softly with a distant snare drum beat. The trumpets enter quietly with the melody, and with each new melodic entry the music grows and intensifies to a roaring finish. This is a fresh new take on a march, and is sure to please players and audiences alike! Flying Colors is the third movement of A Tribute to Arthur Delamont and was commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band. Dur: 3:10SKU: HL04004199
