Mill Mountain Vistas
This spirited composition for concert band is inspired by Mill Mountain, which is located on the outskirts of Roanoke, VA and provides a wonderful elevated view of both the city of Roanoke and the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Of particular interest, the mountaintop contains a structure known as the Mill Mountain Star, the world’s largest freestanding illuminated man-made star, visible for 60 miles from the air and 1,045 feet above the city of Roanoke. Minnie the Moocher
First recorded in 1931 by Cab Calloway and his orchestra, this classic is best known for its famous scat phrase, “Hi De Hi De Hi De Ho,” performed as a call-and-response with audiences. He performed the song on film for the first time in 1955’s Rhythm and Blues Review and much later in 1980’s Blues Brothers at age 73. Mozart!
