Charleston Harbor Celebration
Charleston Harbor Celebration was commissioned by the Charleston Community Band of Charleston, South Carolina (Stephen B. Giove, Conductor). The band commissioned the piece to honor its past conductors — Earl R. Mays, Edwin S. Toporek, Herbert L. Day and John R. Spitler — for their faithful service to education, music and musicians. The piece itself is a concert overture that captures the beauty and energy of Charleston’s important and historic harbor.SKU: AL26832 -

Chase the Shouting Wind
Inspired by the poem, “High Flight,” by American WWII pilot, John Gillespie Magee, Jr., this energetic work calls to mind the thrill and freedom of flight. Opening with rhythmic energy in the winds and rich harmonic statements in the brass, the mood gives way to a sensitive lyrical section. A dynamic development of the opening statement leads, ultimately, to a powerful and climactic ending. An excellent contest piece, this selection will enhance any program. (3:40)SKU: AL41965 -

Cheyenne Cañon
Written for Dan Bell and the Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School Symphonic Band, this work was named by the students for a nearby canyon. Cheyenne Cañon presents a wide variety of musical styles from the mystical opening measures through the loping double time feel of the exposition to the melancholy strains of the lyrical middle section. The tempo continues to increase in the final section, propelling the work to its exciting final measures.SKU: AL23322 -

Chorale Variants
“Chorale Variants” is cast more as a fantasia than a set of variations. The woodwind flourishes purposely infer what an organist might play while improvising on a chorale theme, and the full dynamic power of the wind band brings the piece to a passionate and vibrant close.SKU: AL46673 -

Confession (Movement 2 of Symphony of Prayer)
This remarkable composition is the second movement to Eric Schmidt’s colorful and dramatic symphony for band. A dark and energetic work, Confession is based on a three-note motive, beginning with a menacing opening, but finally yielding to a beautiful chorale that provides a transition to a somber and reverent conclusion. Brilliant orchestration and well-crafted use of creative thematic material make this a most expressive work. Thanksgiving, the popular third movement of the Symphony of Prayer is also available and makes an excellent choice when performed following Confession.SKU: AL24675 -

Continuum
This exciting, innovative new work from Robert Buckley was commissioned by the Troy University Symphony Band in honor of the 37th annual Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic in Alabama. Using a recurring two-measure loop, this uniquely constructed piece is built up around various musical building blocks that are constantly evolving and transforming. The music is dramatic and dynamic, with full-blown ensemble passages suddenly dropping to quiet, powerful moments without ever losing the music’s continuous drive. Following an exotic, bluesy middle section the piece builds, accelerating to a thrilling, rhythmic, percussive finish. A real tour de force! Dur: 7:00SKU: HL04003030 -

Country Gardens
Grainger’s first piano arrangement of this English morris dance tune was completed in 1918 as a birthday gift for his mother. It became extremely popular and was his greatest commercial and financial success. Even this simple tune displays his genius with harmony, counterpoint, and color. This very playable arrangement is an excellent way to introduce your students to the music of Percy Grainger! (2:10)SKU: AL39643 -

Crosslands
Creating a musical representation of earth’s grand vistas and landscapes, Crosslands opens with a delicate, simple theme that is pastoral and reflective. Building to a bold heroic theme stated by trumpets and horns, the piece then concludes as the music subsides quietly representing the soft rays of a picturesque ocean sunset. Another beautifully descriptive work for winds from the pen of Rossano Galante. Dur: 4:10SKU: HL50499564
