Lightning!
“Lightning!” was inspired by the awesome display of beauty and raw energy from a powerful spring thunderstorm that the composer observed in the night sky. Although the storm was almost 100 miles away, the sight of the accompanying electrical show was both an exhilarating and humbling experience. The aggressive parts of this composition attempt to portray the level of energy present in the storm, while the slow interior section provides an opportunity for listeners and performers alike to reflect on its visual beauty. Concert Band, Concert Band Grade: 2Like a Mighty Stream (for Concert Band and Narrator) (Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)
Composed in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the title of this dramatic setting is taken from a biblical passage and quoted by Dr. King in his celebrated “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963. Linden Lea
The first published composition of Vaughan Williams in 1902 was a setting for voice and piano of a poem by William Barnes. The lyrical folk song quality of the tune makes it an irresistible choice for this arrangement for the beginning concert band idiom. Set in three-four time, the lush arrangement reinforces musicality and the triple meter concept. This setting will certainly make your beginners sound lush and polished. Stunning! Loch Lomond
Here are two contrasting treatments of this beautiful Scottish tune in a unique arrangement for young band. The tune is first presented using the lush harmonies, full textures and interesting inner lines that have become a Dave Black trademark. The second treatment is an enchanting dance-like march in 6/8 time that starts with a snare drum introduction, followed by open fifths in the low brass. The tune is developed with the addition of a woodwind countermelody before a final statement of the tune brings the piece to a close. Great for working on phrasing, balance and dynamics. And every section gets their share of the melodic action! (2:30)SKU: AL17121 -
