Slava! Grade 4 Edition
Conductor Mstislav Rostropovich (or Slava to his friends) premiered Leonard Bernstein’s exciting yet brief overture “Slava!” in 1977. Although not notated in the original score, his name “Slava” is traditionally shouted before the 7/8 section. Constructed using two contrasting themes that are combined near the end, Slava! is adapted here by Robert Longfield with key and range considerations for school ensembles, but still retaining the energy and authenticity of the original.
