Papiro
This sophisticated and highly infectious mambo is written in a moderate tempo and features solo space for trumpet and alto sax (flute part optional). Originally composed for the Mario Bauza Orchestra, the title refers to Mario’s dog, Piro (“Para Piro” in English is “For Piro”). It was ultimately recorded on a tribute album to Mario by the band Cubarama, produced by Paquito D’Rivera on Termidor Records. Parisian Thoroughfare
Based on the classic version recorded by Clifford Brown, this chart opens with a frantic “traffic jam” effect before settling into a more relaxed uptempo swing style. The melody is first stated by a combo of tenor, trumpet, guitar and vibes, joined later by the saxes and ultimately the entire ensemble.
