La Procession du Rocio
Composer Joaquin Turina (1882-1949) was a native of Spain, but was influenced early in his career by the impressionistic harmonies of Debussy and Ravel while studying in Paris. Upon returning to Spain he drew inspiration from Spanish folk music with La Procession du Rocio becoming one of his best-known works. The music portrays a festival and procession that takes place in the Triana neighborhood of Seville, and is filled with wonderful idiomatic Spanish musical elements. Alfred Reed’s marvelous transcription created in 1962 remains an enduring staple in the repertoire for wind bands. Dur: c. 8:30Recorded by The Keystone Wind Ensemble – Jack Stamp, conductor

Russian Christmas Music
The theme carefully explored by Alfred Reed in this repertoire standard is “Carol of the Little Russian Children” which is an ancient Russian Christmas carol. You can hear four distinct sections originally called “Children’s Carol,” “Antiphonal Chant,” “Village Song” and “Cathedral Chorus” all joined in this continuous contemporary setting. The almost overwhelming sound picture with varied tone colors and brilliant brass choir sounds is a classic in every sense. “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed is a worthy addition to the Belwin Classic Band series. Symphony for Brass and Percussion
Originally composed in the summer of 1952 and premiered at the Chicago CBDNA conference that same year, the three-movement Symphony opens with abroad introduction containing the majority of the thematic material. The second most lyrical movement is in three-part song form and, the final movement is presented in rondo form. The instrumentation is for expanded brass and percussion sections and is scored for one-on-a-part. An exciting addition to the Belwin Classic series for discriminating ensembles. The Hounds of Spring A Concert Overture for Winds
Alfred Reed (1921-2005) was one of America’s most prolific and frequently performed composers. The Hounds of Spring was composed in 1980 and was inspired by the poem “Atalanta in Calydon” by Algernon Charles Swinburne. In this concert overture, Reed captures the elements of youthful exuberance and tenderness of love expressed in the poem.
