A Child Is Born
This wonderful jazz standard by Thad Jones is now updated by John Denton. It moves smoothly through a few styles as a ballad, a moderate jazz waltz, and a bossa in four all the while keeping the beauty and integrity of the original chart. There are written or ad lib solos for 1st alto sax and 2nd trumpet. Gorgeous chord voicings, tasty contrapuntal lines, and a perfect melody make a very musical chart from top to bottom. Singin’ in the Rain
Here’s a super swing chart for the younger player from arranger John Denton. From the MGM movie of the same name, this melody is well known to all ages. John has included a tenor solo with written solo provided and carefully kept the brass ranges and tempo quite reasonable keeping this chart accessible to this level. You’ll really like the simple but clever harmonic twist and modulation that John included, and the swing figures are all logical and easy to teach. Singing in the Rain will make you happy again!SKU: ALJEM01030 -

Song from M*A*S*H
You know it and love it—this is one of the best TV/movie themes ever. Superbly arranged as a Latin bossa with written-out solos provided for trumpet 2 and alto, a piano montuno interlude, and the lead trumpet range to written A. A great chart! (3:54)SKU: AL41123 -

St. Louis Blues
Here is a must-have jazz classic that has been performed by virtually every jazz artist from composer W.C. Handy and Glenn Miller to Herbie Hancock. That’s because it is a clever and interesting tune – going from major to minor then back to major all the while keeping the blues form. Arranger John Denton creatively sets the groove as a swing shuffle right from the first note and it continues to build. Solo space for tenor sax along with the flexibility of optional parts makes this a winner.SKU: ALJEM03018 -

Star Dust
This is a superb treatment of Hoagy Carmichael’s Star Dust. Beginning as a traditional ballad with unaccompanied brass, the full ensemble comes together for the verse. Then this chart heats up witha funk rock groove. Arranger John Denton pulled out all the stops with a double time feel and a unison sax soli based on Artie Shaw’s original solo. There is also solo space for tenor saxophone with an optional written solo provided. The brass range is modest. The chart closes witht he versed in ballad style. An exceptional chart!
