Dedication for Band
American composer Joseph Turrin is acclaimed for his work with symphony orchestras, classical performers, theater and film as well as his works for school bands. With Dedication for Band he brings a significant addition to the repertoire for mature ensembles. The work is based on five melodic ideas that reoccur throughout the piece, including an opening fanfare that introduces the main theme. With a concentration on climactic tension and expansiveness, this is a masterful and dynamic composition for band. Regiment of Heroes was written for and dedicated to “The Presidents Own” United States Marine Band. This powerful composition opens with a lively syncopated figure followed by a contrasting melodic trio-like section. The opening section returns, this time bringing the piece full circle back to the trio section, only now in a more majestic style. Ritual
Commissioned by the University of Wisconsin – River Falls in 1997 and revised for the Hartt School Wind Symphony in 2007, “Ritual” is the first movement of a three-movement work titled Soundings. This bold and dramatic work stands alone as an impressive symphonic setting, emphasizing the percussion section throughout along with a strong rhythmic drive and tension-building sonorities.
