Cheyenne, Wyoming was a very important city in the move westward during the 19th century. It was built at the crossing of the Union Pacific railroad and Crow Creek. Today, Cheyenne remains a vibrant community with the ongoing spirit of the old west. An original work reminiscent of western movie themes, it is set in a traditional ABA overture form. Broad and bold with the spirit of the west. (3:00)

Although generally defined as any sheltered or growth stage of development, a chrysalis is literally the third stage of growth in the development of a butterfly. Using this fact as his inspiration, Michael Story has musically depicted the butterfly’s development in this stunning overture for your beginners.

It’s a little bluesy, it’s got attitude, and it’s a wonderful way to feature all those clarinet players. The whole ensemble will get in the groove. Well, you’ve probably heard of tributes to almost everything, but how about a tribute to bugs? Yes, with tongue very much in cheek, Michael Story has penned this original novelty to bring more than just a snicker from your audiences. Hear the insect as it approaches (your trumpet section playing on mouthpieces) and a resounding “slap” as the culprit is sent to greener pastures. Add some visuals from the band as the insect “circles,” and you have yourself a guaranteed successful concert moment. For you environmentalists: No harmful pesticides are included.
