Manhattan Beach
Although John Philip Sousa is stereotyped as a march writer, he composed music in many forms. But, of course, it’s his marches that have brought his name to millions of performers and listeners the world over. Of the hundreds of marches he wrote, many are still among the most performed of the medium. Michael Story has chosen this classic Sousa work and removed the technical difficulties so it can be enjoyed by even the youngest ensemble or band. Relish this music of the “March King”! (1:23)

March from First Suite for Military Band
Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-flat for Military Band, one of the first pieces written exclusively for military bands, was composed in 1909. This arrangement is based on the second theme of the March, a very lyrical melody reminiscent of British folk music. This setting brings this cherished work to the stands of your beginners. A welcomed addition to the beginning band repertoire!“The limited ranges and technical demands make this a good way to introduce students to this important work at an early age.”

Medieval Fanfare and Chant
This piece is based entirely upon Pérotin’s “Viderunt Omnes.” A member of the Notre Dame School, Pérotin was a pioneer in three- and four-voice polyphony. “Viderunt Omnes” is one of the few remaining pieces of organum quadruplum known to exist. “Medieval Fanfare and Chant” alternates between the literal presentation of the music and a more contemporary setting of the themes, going back and forth until the final grandiose statement.SKU: AL35390 -
