Like the mist off the moors, a peaceful, quiet solo baritone/euphonium begins our journey to the land of castles and kilts. Robert W. Smith’s recent visit to the British Isles was the catalyst and the inspiration for this true musical celebration, complete with magnificent ethnic underpinnings, textures, colors and sensational percussion. We’re proud to offer this new work featuring three Christmas favorites woven together and featuring one or more soloists in your band. The National Standards for Music Education support soloistic performance, and this holiday tune will fill the bill. Solo parts are provided for all members of the ensemble. Carols included in the concerto are “Deck the Halls,” “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,” and “Jingle Bells.” A wonderful new holiday treat – combine it with Christmas Concerto No. 1 and No. 2. (2:08)

Subtitled “A Holiday Prism for Band,” this work can be presented in a theater-in-the-round format or more traditionally on the concert stage. Following a broad introduction, each family of the band presents their independent carol. Carols include “The Ukrainian Bell Carol,” “Silent Night,” “What Child Is This?” “Jingle Bells,” “Joy to the World,” “Deck the Halls,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.” Prepare the introduction and the finale then let the sections prepare their own carol. Include them all or not. Traditional, contemporary, humorous, and stately, each choir brings a unique facet to this holiday prism. A valuable contribution to the holiday literature.

Progressive in depth and organization, this is the third of four comprehensive warm-up programs used by Robert W. Smith at the podium of every honor band he guest conducts. This warm up program is designed for use in any key with just a standard student part to be included in the band’s folders. This Clinic will provide everything you need for your daily warm-up and support your teaching objectives, as well as accommodate the National Standards for Music Education.
