Over the Rainbow (from The Wizard of Oz), Variations on
Initially this lush melody is presented with a soaring trumpet solo and warm full-band accompaniment. Then the variations include a cha-cha version and an oom-pah version. Consider programming all four Roy Phillippe variations to the Wizard of Oz, including “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” (26767) and “If I Only Had A Brain” (26769). A most creative set of arrangements! Splanky
“Splanky” was composed by jazz great Neal Hefti for the legendary Count Basie band. Check out how arranger Roy Phillippe brings this arrangement to the easy level and yet keeps the integrity of Hefti’s original chart. Solos are written out or ad lib for piano and 1st alto saxophone. Teaching the famous Basie shout chorus will be a breeze and the trademark Basie piano style is in there, too. (3:14)SKU: ALJEM04013 -

Sunday Morning
Arranger Roy Phillippe has nailed the gospel rock style with this Neal Hefti classic. Roy recognized that Hefti originally wrote this for trumpeter Harry James, so Roy appropriately starts off with a solo trumpet. A stop time treatment of the bridge section offers a nice change of pace for the rhythm players. Ad lib solos are written out for alto and tenor saxophone and the brass ranges are modest. Don’t forget this chart will sound great with reduced instrumentation. This catchy melody makes a fun to play chart and teaches easy rock rhythms, too. Enjoy!SKU: ALJEM02019 -

Teddy the Toad
Originally done by the great Basie band, “Teddy” is a mellow chart that will give the young band an intimate sound played at an easy swing tempo. Not difficult, yet very effective with written solos for 1st alto and 1st trumpet. Modest trumpet range and the usual optional parts make this one very accessible. (4:01)SKU: AL29770 -

The Shadow of Your Smile (from The Sandpiper)
Here is a classic that is already considered a standard from the next generation of American composers. Johnny Mandel wrote this gorgeous melody that is hauntingly beautiful, and Roy Phillippe arranged it for the younger band to feature the piano, alto sax, and trumpet. Flexible instrumentation and optional parts are included, along with some rich section harmonies, trumpets in harmon mute for musical color, and a powerful ensemble sound that will make your band sound terrific. Roy Phillippe is a superb writer who delivers the right stuff. You’ll enjoy this fine chart.SKU: ALJEM01017
