An American Fanfare
In this dynamic concert opener, Rick Kirby incorporates the normally hymn-like strains of “America (My Country, ‘Tis of Thee)” into a fast and energetic fanfare. The actual melody is stated only once in its entirety, and many liberties are taken with both melodic and harmonic elements of the original. Breathtaking! Dur: 1:40 (Grade 4)SKU: HL04002786 -

An Angel Fantasie
Here is an outstanding opportunity to both ring in the season and help your students to develop the important skills of rhythmic independence and stylized articulations. An Angel Fantasie is a creative treatment of the well-known Christmas carol Angels We Have Heard On High. This arrangement forgoes the usual melody/harmony scoring in favor of introducing the young musician to simple contrapuntal writing. The theme is treated lyrically for the first half of the arrangement before introducing lighter articulations “alla baroque.”SKU: AL23296 -

An Australian Sea Ballad
The Australian folk song “Catalpa” was inspired by the escape of Irish prisoners from a jail in Freemantle, Western Australia in 1876. It is said that the song became so popular in area pubs that it was banned and anyone caught singing it would be arrested. This beautiful setting allows for the utmost blend and sonority of the full band and provides a wonderful contrasting moment in any concert program.SKU: AL26807 -

Ancient Desert Drone
Ancient Desert Drone was composed for orchestra in 1940 at the request of Percy Grainger, who encouraged the idea of using a single pitch “drone” throughout the work (similar to Grainger’s own The Immovable Do) and to whom the piece is dedicated. While the work suggests an Eastern charm with its distinctive mode and primitive rhythms, Cowell himself stated there was no particular programmatic intent. This transcription for band is an exotic and welcome addition to the repertoire for winds.
