Based on the changes to “Sweet Georgia Brown,” Swingin’ for the Fences can be fast or if you have the horses, really fast. In this Gordon Goodwin original, the solo section provides space for alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone, and piano or vibes. The title says it all when the full ensemble gets its wish – a rompin’, stompin’ tutti section that will put your band on the map. Symphony in Riffs
Symphony In Riffs is Benny Carter’s most famous piece. Originally composed and arranged in the 1930’s for 4 reeds and 5 brass, Benny re-scored this version for a larger band some 50 years later. Benny was known for his idiomatic saxophone writing and this chart is a great example of that. Just when you think that the soli chorus at D is as good as his saxophone writing can get, he modulates and tops it with the brilliant new section at I. This is a transitional piece between the pre-swing of the 1920s and the mid-1930s swing.SKU: AL30564 -

T.M.I. (Too Much Information)
This Latin-rock original by Ralph Ford has a distinct Santana flavor. With a fresh sounding melody that could easily be a pop hit, Ralph has scored this one to sound full – even with reduced instrumentation – and the younger players will definitely hook into this tune. Yep, it’s in 4/4 not 5/4. A clever chart on a super classic that everyone will recognize, young or old. The bossa nova tempo is around 130 BPM and there are written suggested solos for piano and alto sax. Take the “A” Train
This chart swings all the way and is very playable by a young band. Arranger Vince Gassi captures the essence of this well-known Strayhorn composition made famous by Ellington, and scored it exactly right—not too difficult but with fun-to-play parts. Think of Take the “A” Train with a contemporary flair and you have the idea behind this inventive chart by Alan Baylock. Opening up in a swing groove, then alternating with a funk feel, bari sax, bass ‘bone, guitar and bass have the initial melodic statement in this terrific chart. Solo space is available for alto sax 1, trombone 1, bari sax and trumpet 2, and the lead trumpet range is to written D, above the staff. A modern yet superb chart of a tune everyone knows.
