Rhapsody in Blue
Classic Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue is music all students should have the opportunity to hear and enjoy. The history of this composition dates back to 1924. Since then, it’s been recorded and performed countless times, and now it’s your turn. Take notice that master arranger Paul Cook scores it for the younger band yet still captures the essence of this beautiful melody, all the color, and even the trademark counter-melody toward the end. With the exception of a brief tenor sax solo on the melody, it’s all rich and full sounding ensemble, ideal for teaching phrasing. Flexible instrumentation along with easy brass demands and simple rhythms make this one a winner!SKU: ALJEM00029 -

Rhythm Rappin’ Rock
Finally, a rap/rock piece with real educational value! Consistent with many established approaches, students will learn new sixteenth-note rhythms typically introduced in the first or second year of instruction through “rap” (speech rhythms), which will ensure accuracy when played on instruments later. There are also plenty of fun licks to play on instruments using easier rhythms (nothing harder than eighth notes). This one is such great fun that students will hardly know they’re learning!SKU: AL24708 -

Rising Dragons
Commissioned by the Korean Navy Symphonic Band under the direction of Lt. Commander Joon Hyung Park, Rising Dragons pays tribute to the legacy of Yi Sun Shin and his impact on naval operations throughout the world. Beginning with a commanding fanfare, the authoritative statement gives way to the lone flute representing the solitude and reflection that any great leader must endure.
