Spy Ring
Under orders from General George Washington at the height of the Revolutionary War, a spy ring was organized for the purpose of providing critical information on the movement of British forces in the New York area. This dynamic work for band hints at the sense of danger and intrigue at the heart of this operation. The opening strains are propelled by an underlying rhythmic layer with flashes of color from the winds and percussion. A reflective middle section features soloistic passages with lush harmonies, and offers a calming mood before the fast tempo returns for the dynamic finish. Dur: c. 7:45 (MusicWorks)SKU: HL04005145 -

St. Anthony Chorale
This beautiful, unique chorale serves as the basis to Johannes Brahms’s famous orchestral masterpiece Variations on a Theme of Haydn. (Long attributed to Franz Joseph Haydn, recent scholarship indicates that it was probably written by some other composer of the Classical period.) Correlated with Accent on Achievement, Book 2, page 14, this arrangement is an excellent choice for the developing band.SKU: AL20664 -

St. James Infirmary
A contemporary treatment of this traditional jazz tune, arranger and band director Mike Kamuf combines multiple generations in one chart. With a shuffle groove, the opening melody is stated by alto, tenor, trumpet and optional guitar in fourths. Some countermelody development, solo space (written) for tenor and trumpet, then an interlude that builds big time into a powerful shout chorus to bring it home. It’s a happening chart. (4:04)“This chart gives the New Orleans classic a funk treatment. The piece starts with a great introduction, and a vamp based on the melody follows each chorus. Written solos for the tenor sax and trumpet are in D minor and use some nice stylistic elements.”

St. James Infirmary
Down-home and bluesy, slow and greasy! This outstanding chart blends a New Orleans-style slow swing and contemporary harmonies. The best of both worlds comes alive within the creative mind of arranger Tom Davis. Your young band students will love this arrangement so much that they won’t want to stop playing. Lots of unison, easy brass range (trumpet to F and trombone to E-flat), alto and tenor sax written solos with band backgrounds, and simple rhythms will all give you a quality musical product with minimum rehearsal time. Very effective chart for festivals and concerts!“This chart gives the New Orleans classic a funk treatment.
