Mandjiani
Mandjiani is based on a number of compositional techniques common to the music of Africa. Among the techniques employed are “call and response,” layering independent lines to create complex textures, parallel voice leading, diatonic harmonies, and invigorating cross rhythms. Mandjiani is the name of the ostinato rhythmic pattern that appears in the work and persists until the end of the composition.SKU: AL22288 -

Manzanita
The title Manzanita refers to the flowering shrubs that grow so abundantly in the high desert and mountain regions of Southern California. The composer, John O’Reilly has spent a considerable amount of time in these mountains where he often composes. The opening fanfare and processional of Manzanita was inspired by the beautiful mountains surrounding the San Gorgonio pass near Palm Springs. An enlarged and very prominent percussion section is featured in the exciting Allegro that brings to mind the Native American tribes that were the first inhabitants of this beautiful and exotic region.SKU: AL24671 -

Leo Delibes composed his ballet, “Sylvia,” in 1876. It achieved considerable popularity, and several of the individual numbers were grouped into a suite which orchestras all over the world have played. The March and the Cortege of Bacchus appears in Act III of the ballet, describing the arrival of Bacchus and his followers.
