March for a Norwegian Penguin
A happy march, this original setting was inspired by the gift of a King Penguin to Scotland’s Edinburgh Zoo in 1913. Even though there really isn’t an actual Norwegian penguin, this particular penguin-mascot has even been honored with knighthood. The story is just as intriguing as the music itself. March from First Suite for Military Band
Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-flat for Military Band, one of the first pieces written exclusively for military bands, was composed in 1909. This arrangement is based on the second theme of the March, a very lyrical melody reminiscent of British folk music. This setting brings this cherished work to the stands of your beginners. A welcomed addition to the beginning band repertoire!“The limited ranges and technical demands make this a good way to introduce students to this important work at an early age.”

March of the Magical Toys
“‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. Santa had dropped through the chimney with care, hoping the children would be up the stairs. He placed all the toys round the tree with delight, and wiggled his nose at the stroke of midnight. The toys came alive and marched round and round, singing and dancing to holiday sounds.” So begins Robert W. Smith’s program notes. Need more be said? Here is that “Smith creativity” at its finest!
