On the Rising Winds
Imagine an early morning rural scene as a small aircraft takes off in flight and slowly ascends while the natural beauty of the countryside below unfolds. Beginning with the softest of winds, the mysterious introduction gives way to the exuberance of flight. Robert W. Smith expands our musical horizons through this supremely atmospheric imagery with winds and percussion. Theater in music! (4:10)SKU: ALBD9850 -

Pavane (Pour Une Infante Defunte)
This hauntingly beautiful piece is one of Maurice Ravel’s most popular piano works. Robert W. Smith’s transcription for winds contrasts a ‘music box’ effect in bells and triangle against the dynamic rise and fall of the winds. Written as a contest/festival/concert work, it will also serve as a warmup chorale. A great teaching piece!SKU: ALBD01096 -

Peer Gynt Suite
Edvard Grieg’s early musical training took place in Germany, but philosophical constraints sent him back to his native Norway, where he began what is now referred to as the Norwegian School. He is best known for his Peery Gynt Suites, No. 1 & No. 2, originally written as orchestral suites and as incidental accompaniments for Ibsen’s epic drama. This sparkling scoring includes Morning Mood, The Death of Ase, Anitra’s Dance, and In The Hall Of The Mountain King. (4:56)
