Inspired by the official Command Exhibition Parachute Demonstration Team from Fort Benning, Georgia, your performers and the audience will enjoy Victor López’s musical journey from the haunting beginning to the dark heroic melody with the ostinato skillfully written in a seamless fashion. Beautiful color is brought to the melody with the joining of the baritones, flutes, and clarinets. The lyrical section involves a chorale-like clarinet choir accompanying a beautiful oboe solo. Slavic Rhapsody is a three-part tone poem, which combines Slavic and Hungarian-style melodies with syncopated accompaniments. The melody and accompaniment parts alternate from the flute section to the trumpet section and back, marking this a real treat for the listener. Slumber, My Darling
With music and lyrics both composed by Stephen Foster in 1862 its elegantly simple and lyrical melody allow for a variety of colors and textures including low woodwinds, predominant melodic material played by low brass and low woodwinds, solo voices, and flowing counterpoint. Written as a memorial for a middle school band student, this sensitive and moving work opens with a chorale played by off-stage brass.
