Sky Bound
Inspired by a poem by the ancient Persian poet Rumi: “Love calls, everywhere and always. We are sky bound. Are you coming?” The imagery of ascension is evident in the rising musical motives, and the energy and drive of the music concludes with an affirmation of hope. (5:30)SKU: AL41963 -

Southern Hymn
Even though the themes used in this beautiful setting are original, it is intended to be played in the style of a slow Southern folk hymn, similar to “Amazing Grace” or “Shenandoah.” Filled with suspensions and resolutions, as well as calm moments and powerfully emotional builds, this is a marvelous work for expanding your ensemble’s stylistic and dynamic range. Speak to Me
There is a long tradition in jazz of instruments carrying on a conversation – either intricate with soloistic dialogues (often improvised) or the call and response of larger forces. Speak to Me is above all such a conversation, at first among soloists and then among more and more performers as they gradually join in. This piece begins with a simple tune that increasingly overlaps with and is interrupted by other ideas, generating enormous energy along the way. Stardance
The opening of this unique and masterful work for band places the wind players out in the audience as the listeners are surrounded by the effect of a swirling dance of celestial lights and sounds. Onstage, the percussion section introduces a driving ostinato pattern later picked up by the entire ensemble. A delicate and beautiful middle section almost suspends time as soloists provide a bluesy interaction with the rich background texture and each other. The frantic pace returns leading to a stunning chorale played by the winds while the percussion continues simultaneously at a separate tempo! A creative and magical addition to the repertoire!
