Graceful Ghost Rag
Adapted from the well-known piano composition Graceful Ghost Rag, here is William Bolcom’s own very elegant and effective version for symphonic band. Written in a moderate ragtime tempo, this work utilizes a transparent scoring style along with soloistic passages contrasted with brief soli features for various sections of the ensemble. Unique and rewarding. Dur: 4:00 (Grade 4)SKU: HL04002987 -

Grand Canyon Fanfare
James Newton Howard composed this dynamic fanfare for the closing segment of the 1993 movie Grand Canyon (starring Danny Glover, Kevin Kline and Steve Martin). The film is now largely forgotten, however the music remains a vibrant and powerful statement and a very effective concert opener. Skillfully adapted by Paul Murtha with heroic brass figures, woodwind flourishes, and thundering percussion.SKU: HL04004270 -

The combination of award-winning composer John Williams and the talents of Robert W. Smith make for exquisite results. A stunning medley of the four most revered themes from the epic film score. The arrangement begins with the familiar “Prologue: Book II.” Next is the aggressive theme from “The Chamber of Secrets,” followed by “Fawkes the Phoenix,” and finally the theme used in both of the first two films, “Harry’s Wondrous World.” A vivid and dynamic portrayal of the movie, this one will be a real crowd pleaser. Heritage
Heritage was composed by Jerry Brubaker for the 150th anniversary of the New Holland Band of New Holland, Pennsylvania. This is an organization that has a rich musical heritage dating back to 1856! The work is loosely based upon several Pennsylvania Dutch folk songs. The piece begins with a fanfare that sets up a majestic march. There is a hymn-like slower section which echoes the devout nature of the people of Lancaster county. The very festive rhythmic development section is sure to please the percussion section. This work was designed to have universal audience appeal and is a must for any symphonic band program!SKU: AL24784 -

Highlights from Beauty and the Beast
Disney’s landmark animated musical was released in 1991 and then beautifully adapted for the Broadway stage in 1994. The 2017 life-action film starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens helps keep the magic alive and reminds us of the wonderful songs composed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. This symphonic medley includes: Prologue, Belle, Gaston, Be Our Guest, Transformation, and of course Beauty and the Beast.SKU: HL20823267 -

Hymn to the Beauty That Was
This stunning lyrical composition is truly something special. A tribute to Jennifer, Hayley, and Michaela Petit, victims of a 2007 home invasion in Cheshire, CT, Hymn to the Beauty That Was is a moving ballad which adds harp (or synthesizer) to the band, and features soloists on flute, English horn (or alto sax), and euphonium. The piece builds to a powerful and emotional climax as the three main musical elements (the women’s theme, the hymn melody, and an accompanying triplet figure) are woven together.SKU: AL36713 -

I’m Seventeen Come Sunday
Australian-born Percy Grainger developed into one of the most sensationally successful concert pianists of the early 1900s. As a composer and arranger, he is perhaps best known for his work with folk music. Number eight in Grainger’s British Folk-Music Settings series, “I’m Seventeen Come Sunday” is actually an amalgam of two English folk songs — the main tune collected by Grainger in 1905, from Lincolnshire, and a variant of a tune collected by Cecil J. Sharp in 1912, from Sumerset. Welcome Douglas Wagner’s sensitive setting of one of Grainger’s best-known works. (3:00)SKU: ALBD9909 -

Iberian Escapades
Written for the Boca Raton Middle School Band in Florida, Iberian Escapades was inspired by the resort architecture of Addison Mizner, whose Mediterranean-style estates launched a “Florida Renaissance” and inspired architects across North America. Mizner identified each of his Boca Raton villas with Spanish names, three of which are captured in this musical collage: El Mirasol (it watches the sun) is a fanciful Flamenco-style opening; El Solano (the east wind) presents exotic colors and romantic themes; and La Guerida (the bounty of war) ends the piece with an aggressive and energetic statement.SKU: AL31725 -

Ignition
“Ignition” is a blindingly fast, raucously energetic concert opener that derives its title from the consecutive rising three-note cells that are the building blocks for almost the entire work. However, the energy unleashed in the music and the imagery of the title serve both as a metaphor for the “spark” of creativity, and as a “celebration in sound” for those who find and follow their own true life’s passion and pass it along to others, “igniting” the flame for another generation. It was written for the Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony and their conductor, Scott Stewart, who have been steadfast supporters of Todd Stalter’s compositions, as a musical “Thank you!” from a grateful composer.SKU: AL36719 -

In a Gentle Rain
This second movement of The Willson Suite has been restructured to accommodate virtually any wind instrument as the soloist. Serene by nature, the charismatic melody is accompanied by unique effects reminiscent of a gentle rain. The solo may be divided to permit multiple soloists to be featured. This creative approach is the perfect opportunity to feature outstanding soloists at your spring concert. An incredibly musical work. Your audience will be in awe.SKU: ALBDM00018 -

In Perfect Silence, I Often Gaze at the New Stars
On a Sunday afternoon in May of 2011 tornados devastated the city of Joplin, Missouri. In Perfect Silence, I Often Gaze at the New Stars is intended as a musical tribute to those who lost their lives that day and to those heroes who gave everything they could to help others. The music is a beautiful blending of sounds and moods, and carries with it a full range of emotions from reflective quiet moments to the massive outpouring from the entire ensemble. In the Center Ring
“In The Center Ring” was written in the autumn of 2003 for the Upper Antioch Grade School Band from Antioch, Illinois, Earl Bush, director. The piece is a musical snapshot of a circus performance, from the madcap antics of the jugglers and clowns to the elegance of the high-wire and trapeze performers. This wild musical romp is certainly a technical challenge, but is also great fun for the performer and listener alike. Above all, remember this is a theatrical piece – so emphasize the dynamics, bring out the inherent comedy and have FUN!SKU: AL23313
