An American Tapestry (for Wind Ensemble)
An American Tapestry is a continuous medley of three American folk songs:�the happy-go-lucky�The Girl I Left Behind Me, the somber and reflective�He’s Gone Away, and the foot-stompin’ hoedown�Ol’ Dan Tucker. The setting was originally composed for chamber winds (11 players) and has been completely rescored by the composer in this new edition for full wind ensemble. Aria Della Battaglia
The current edition of Gabrieli’s Aria Della Battaglia was transcribed for the modern orchestra wind section from the Canto Dialoghi Musicali de Diversi Eccelentissimi Autori: Venice 1590. The work is subtitled “per sonare d’instrumenti da fiato” (“to be played by wind instruments”) and is one in a long line of such descriptive works dating from the sixteenth century with no instrumental designation whatsoever. The popularity of this genre, however, did not fade with the close of the Renaissance. Rather, a rich development continued into the nineteenth century with Beethoven’s Wellington’s Victory, the so-called “Battle Symphony,” being a latter-day example.SKU: AL29639 -

Beyond Whistler
The closing movement from the Sea to Sky Suite is “Beyond Whistler.” After whisking down this highest and most treacherous of slopes, the listener stops to view what lies beyond. This movement is finalized with a long, slow build to the climax, again using the motif that is present throughout the entire suite. It is to be performed with a great sense of wonder and excitement, with a gradual build to the end. A grand conclusion to this dynamic suite. Bite the Bullet
Bite the Bullet by Mexican-American composer Jorge Machain was named 2019-2020 winner of acclaimed “The American Prize” for music, in addition to being a finalist in the 2018 NBA Revelli competition. The work was inspired by a painting by Venetian artist, Carlo Marchiori, which depicts two Pulcinelli (Venetian clowns) engaged in a gun battle. As the bullets meet in the middle of the scene, a colorful and vibrant cloudburst is created. Using a unique sonic color scheme, the brass and percussion portray the gunshots, while the woodwind flourishes emulate the painter’s vibrant brush strokes. Cathedrals
Named the 2008 winner of the prestigious Frederick Fennell Prize for young composers (sponsored by ASCAP and CBDNA), Cathedrals by Kathryn Salfelder is a fantasy on Gabrieli’s Canzon Primi Toni from the “Sacrae Symphoniae,” which dates from 1597. The work is an ingenious synthesis of old and new, evoking the mystery and allure of Renaissance spatial music through the use of two brass choirs, and intertwined with a rich color palette, modal harmonies, and a variety of woodwind and percussion textures. Celebration Fanfare (On a Theme by Haydn)
