Sarabande & Gavotte (from the Holberg Suite, Opus 40)
“Sarabande” and “Gavotte” are the second and third movements of the Holberg Suite, Op. 40, a standard movement of the Baroque suite. Both movements may be performed as part of the entire suite or as a stand-alone selection. This arrangement is true to the original work—as feasible and offers the sonorities of the concert band ensemble in a very playable version. The first movement, “Praeludium,” (00-38363) released last season, has recently been selected as Reviewer’s Choice in the October 2012 issue of The Instrumentalist magazine. (7:00)SKU: AL39537 -

Scherzo: Cat and Mouse
The “cat and mouse chase” has been a part of folklore and popular culture since the time of pharaohs in ancient Egypt. Over the ages, the chase has served as a metaphor for the suspenseful and sometimes alternating relation between hunter and hunted. In the modern age, the story has been played out hundreds of times in popular animated cartoons, often accompanied by a musical score representing the energetic spirit of the chase with lively twists and turns, sudden surprises and tongue-in-cheek music. In this spirit of playfulness and suspense, Robert Spittal has created a marvelous work that is both entertaining and exhilarating. Dur: 6:30 (Grade 4)Recorded by the University of North Texas Wind Symphony – Eugene Migliaro Corporon, conductor
“This entertaining work effectively conveys the playfulness and suspense of the cat and mouse chase. Creatively scored in a driving 3/4 time with contrasting textures, rhythmic variety, brisk passages…and melodic and harmonic interest throughout.”–The Instrumentalist

Scramble
A rousing concert opener or closer, “Scramble” is intended to aurally depict two characteristics of its title—collecting things together in a disorderly way, and moving quickly with a sense of urgency. The theme and its harmonic structure are presented at the beginning, and its musical “parts” are imaginatively separated and combined in unique and haphazard combinations throughout the piece, all at a frantic pace. Searching for Lost Dreams
“As I began this piece, it was as though I were entering a dream. The music was atmospheric, undefined, and somewhat disorienting. Gradually the material became more focused, but just in time to switch to a very different–though related–sound world, which became the second movement. The overall poignancy, varied sound worlds and dramatic shape of the music suggested the title.” ~Dana Wilson Dur: 8:00 (Recorded by the North Texas Wind Symphony, Jacqueline Townsend, conductor)SKU: HL48024108
