Confession (Movement 2 of Symphony of Prayer)
This remarkable composition is the second movement to Eric Schmidt’s colorful and dramatic symphony for band. A dark and energetic work, Confession is based on a three-note motive, beginning with a menacing opening, but finally yielding to a beautiful chorale that provides a transition to a somber and reverent conclusion. Brilliant orchestration and well-crafted use of creative thematic material make this a most expressive work. Thanksgiving, the popular third movement of the Symphony of Prayer is also available and makes an excellent choice when performed following Confession.SKU: AL24675 -

Confrontations
Defined, “to oppose a challenge or standing in the way of opposition.” In general usage it insinuates that this can likely be resolved and is not as serious as a “fight” or “war.” In this music, the composer suggests that a confrontation could be described as a non-harmonic discord which is quickly changed to a pleasing resolution. Energetic percussion contributions enhance this bold new contemporary composition.SKU: AL32491 -

Using a recurring two-measure loop, this uniquely constructed piece is built up around various musical building blocks that are constantly evolving and transforming. The music is dramatic and dynamic, with full-blown ensemble passages suddenly dropping to quiet, powerful moments without ever losing the music’s continuous drive. Contraption
Contraption is a tone poem describing an imaginary machine of great size and power. The word “contraption” is defined as “a device or machine regarded as strange, incomprehensible, or makeshift.” This concept has been applied to the construction of this musical composition. The creation of this piece was accomplished in the same way an inventor might build a physical contraption, in this case limited to three main component “parts” plus an interlude. A very unique and appealing piece! (3:40)SKU: AL26824 -

Contredanse
Today we have ‘line dancing,’ which in reality is not too different from the ‘contredanse’ or country dance of the late 18th century. The music accompanying this French dance form was written in eight-measure phrases repeated again and again. Composer Larry Clark gives us the flavor of another era with more contemporary harmonic structuring. Look very seriously at this sophisticated yet audience-friendly new work for your concert band or wind ensemble. (2:24)
