Awakening…
Beginning with silence and gradually building throughout to a powerful and dramatic close, this distinctive work from Dana Wilson explores the various facets of the word “awakening” as it applies to the waking of an individual, a day, or possibly even a philosophical idea. Wonderfully imaginative, Awakening… makes use of striking colors and sonic devices including surrounding the audience with percussion near the climatic finish. Dur: 5:00 (Grade 4)Recorded by the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble – Stephen Peterson, conductor

Front Burner Windependence Series – Artist Level
As the title implies, this short yet dynamic work is intended as a fast-paced “burner” and quite possibly positioned at the “front” of any concert program. Filled with dynamic twists and turns, along with cascading woodwind passages and splashes of brass and percussion, there is a sense of almost being out of control as it reaches an exciting and dramatic finish. Dur: ca. 3:00 (Recorded live by the Eastman Wind Ensemble – Mark Scatterday, conductor)SKU: HL48025348 -

Searching for Lost Dreams
“As I began this piece, it was as though I were entering a dream. The music was atmospheric, undefined, and somewhat disorienting. Gradually the material became more focused, but just in time to switch to a very different–though related–sound world, which became the second movement. The overall poignancy, varied sound worlds and dramatic shape of the music suggested the title.” ~Dana Wilson Dur: 8:00 (Recorded by the North Texas Wind Symphony, Jacqueline Townsend, conductor)SKU: HL48024108 -

Speak to Me
There is a long tradition in jazz of instruments carrying on a conversation – either intricate with soloistic dialogues (often improvised) or the call and response of larger forces. Speak to Me is above all such a conversation, at first among soloists and then among more and more performers as they gradually join in. This piece begins with a simple tune that increasingly overlaps with and is interrupted by other ideas, generating enormous energy along the way. Dur: c. 5:00This recording is used with permission from GIA Publications, Inc. The Banquet…and the poison soup plot
Providing a unique concert experience, this programmatic work depicts the story of what newspapers in 1916 described as “the poison soup plot”! At a Chicago banquet for dignitaries and politicians, a mass murder plot involving poison soup was hatched and nearly successful. However, thanks to a large number of unexpected guests, the dilution of the soup to feed everyone, and a quick thinking doctor with an antidote, tragedy was averted with no loss of life. Musical cues follow the events, and detailed program notes are included with the suggestion of including dancers to help tell the story. Imaginative and entertaining! Recorded by the University of Kansas Symphonic Band (Lawrence, KS) – Matthew O. Smith, conductor. Dur: ca. 7:45SKU: HL48024502
