Mood Indigo
This medium swing arrangement of the dreamy Ellington tune will cook at just about any tempo (though the recommended tempo is 108 BPM). The chart features a written tenor sax solo and a lot of interplay between the brass and saxes. It even has a 4-bar stop-time section for a rhythmic contrast. The Duke would be pleased that you’re playing one of his songs on your next concert program.SKU: AL36053 -

Moon over Cuba
Juan Tizol’s Moon Over Cuba started life with the title of Puerto Rican Girl. Although the copyright date is 1939, the only performance of this piece is the Victor recording from 1941. This obscure piece never achieved the mild popularity of Ellington’s other 2 Latin masterpieces of that era- Conga Brava and Flaming Sword, but don’t sell this gem short just because you never heard of it.SKU: AL30562 -

Oclupaca
Michael Mossman uses a moderately fast Afro-Cuban style to craft this setting of Duke Ellington’s lesser-known work. This striking and fresh-sounding chart features tight harmonies and a driving rhythmic groove along with solo space for trombone, trumpet and your choice of sax. The unexpected shift in feel for the shout chorus will knock your socks off!SKU: HL7012009 -

Prelude to a Kiss
A superb feature for baritone saxophone, this is certainly one of Ellington’s more beautiful melodies and another winning chart from master arranger Dave Wolpe. The perfect ballad showcase for your bari player with plenty of melodic soloing and no improvisation. A swingin’ double-time section offers a nice contrast to this lush ballad. This chart is perfect for concert, festival or even a dance gig. Give the bari player the spotlight.SKU: ALJEM03005 -

Satin Doll
A great jazz song from the collaboration of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn! This arrangement is for vocal group (SATB or SSAA) with big band, and can be used with a vocal soloist as well. You’ll like the way the band backs the singers and even gets a chance to blow on its own. Don’t overlook this one!

Looking for an easy to play vocal piece? Here is an excellent vocal chart on a well known standard that is arranged at a much easier level by Terry White, with no individual solos, lots of full ensemble, a shout chorus and a modulation. And it’s all very easy to rehearse and perform! The vocal range is from F, first space to fourth line D, treble clef. Scored for 5 saxes, 6 brass and 4 rhythm, plus this arrangement will sound full with reduced instrumentation. With very accessible brass ranges and optional parts for flute, horn, tuba and baritone horn T.C., this is a classy chart all the way. (2:45)SKU: AL30620 -
