Ballad for Peace
The word “peace has many connotations: “a state of tranquility or quiet, freedom from war and harmony among neighbors”, and more personally, “freedom from disquieting thoughts and emotions”. This piece was written in an attempt to express ideas such as these. The form is similar to the composer’s earlier Balladair (AABCAA) with a modulation leading to a final extended statement of the opening melody, serving as a codetta.

Barcarolle
The barcarolle was originally a boat song that was sung by Venitian gondoliers, characterized by the alternation of strong and light beats in 6/8 time. The highly expressive melody is first played by trumpets and is then interwoven with flutes, clarinets and other sections of the band. A timeless contribution to your concert band music library. Commissioned by the Hamilton, Ontario Massed Band Festival, 1992. (Grade 3—Medium)SKU: AL5680 -

Fantasy on Themes from Tchaikovsky
Tchaikovsky’s musical progress was based upon impulse, rather than upon intellectual conviction. It was his sincere response to emotional impulse and the freedom with which he ranged over almost every field of musical creation which made him as great as he was. Frank Erickson passed away before he could provide rehearsal suggestions for this piece. This was one of his final numbers.

Prelude and Gloria (Adapted from Cantata No. 141–“Wachet Auf”)
The melody, ‘Wachet Auf’ (‘Sleepers, Wake’) was not composed by Bach, but was used by him in three of the seven movements of his Cantata No. 141. This arrangement features adaptations of the third and last movements of the Cantata. An introduction has been added, as well as a finale for the Gloria, for a more cohesive presentation. Contrasting movements offer fantastic opportunities to focus on contrapuntal and chorale playing. (Grade 3—Medium)SKU: AL5675 -

Rhythm of the Winds
What a great interplay of rhythms! History will remember this work as one of the most played concert and contest pieces of all time. The alternation of two rhythms—one syncopated and the other an after-beat pattern—form the rhythmic foundation for the work’s theme. This rhythmic pattern has become a staple for many contemporary band compositions. It’s just as classy as it is classic! (5:15)SKU: ALBD00366 -
