That’s How We Roll
A Goodwin original, this is a bouncy shuffle that has melodies with big hooks to grab your attention. Shuffles always work great, and this one is no exception. “Roll” has solo space for alto, tenor, bari, trumpet, and trombone, and a lead trumpet range to written high F with a G at the end. The percussion part calls for bongos and conga. As recorded by the Big Phat Band, it’s a winner at any concert or festival.SKU: AL33367 -

That’s How We Roll
An easy-to-play shuffle swing adapted from Gordon Goodwin’s high-end chart for the grade 2 level. Arranger Peter Blair gets it right with accessible rhythms, written solos for alto and trumpet and this catchy melody. While not a trumpet section feature, the trumpets get most of the spotlight melody lines with lead trumpet range to written G on top of the staff with one last note A above the staff. It’s good to play Goodwin!SKU: AL38673 -

That’s Life
Gordon Goodwin’s medium-slow treatment of this familiar standard swings hard right from the start! This expertly crafted chart features plenty of tutti ensemble writing, solo space for trumpet and piano, and a short but potent sax soli. Silky smooth!SKU: HL34909040 -

The Cannonball Run
A high energy Latin pop groove, this one moves along at a pretty good clip—around 240 BPM. It features a soprano sax lead instead of alto 1 and solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombones 1 and 2. The lead trumpet range is to written high F. A hot sax section soli and some counterpoint round out this cannonball. Hot stuff! (6:28)SKU: AL43704 -

The Little Drummer Boy
Introducing a slow, funky version of “Little Drummer Boy” that’s very clever with the initial melody line played by bass trombone and bari sax. The tempo is 110 BPM, the chart has a soprano sax lead, and solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4, and trombones 1 and 2. The lead trumpet range is up to high A-flat. A very cool Gordon Goodwin chart! The Phat Pack
Slow and bluesy! The title chart as recorded on Gordon Goodwin’s newest CD, The Phat Pack. Things to enjoy: it’s kind of greasy, it’s full of twists and turns, calls for brass plunger mutes and optional bass clarinet for bari sax, and the lead trumpet range goes up to written E with a few G’s. There is solo space for all saxes, trumpet 4 and trombone 1. Show stopping!SKU: AL26889 -

There’s the Rub
Gordon Goodwin’s stellar reputation as a writer is well deserved. The burnin’ shout chorus will make this an all time favorite chart for every library. Percussion part included. As recorded on Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band: Swingin’ for the Fences. Told Ya So
A medium-swing modal original by Gordon Goodwin. The tempo is around 140 BPM, the flexible solo section has written solos provided for (opt) flute, alto 1, tenor 1, bari, trumpet 3 and trombone 1. The lead trumpet range is to written B above the staff. It’s relaxed and kinda laid-back but still has the Goodwin intensity. A fun to play Goodwin chart.SKU: AL40362 -

Too Close for Comfort
A Gordon Goodwin vocal chart! In addition to the vocal part, there are solo lead sheets for alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet and trombone. Gordon has conceived this chart with the vocal intertwined into the fabric of the chart. Vocal keys are F, G and A-flat with modulations. Vocal range is low E below middle C to E-flat fourth space. As recorded on The Phat Pack CD. Outstanding!SKU: AL26890 -

Tweet Fatigue
Gordon scored this superb chart for a good high school jazz ensemble to be played around 126 BPM with a straight-eighth feel into a rock groove. The saxes start things off acapella then things heat up in a quirky but clever “Goodwin” way. Solo space is provided for a variety of players with separate sample solos provided for C, B-flat, E-flat, and trombone soloists. An auxiliary percussion part plus all the usual optional parts plus vibes are included. (5:35)SKU: AL46174 -

Whodunnit?
Another Gordon Goodwin work of art. Commissioned by New Trier High School, Jim Warrick, director, this is sort of a bluesy-swing chart with a huge shout chorus. Optional vibe/xylophone/percussion part and an optional flute part on 2nd alto part. Demands a strong sax section and has a powerful shout chorus. As performed by Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band. Wonderful chart! (excerpt 2:06)SKU: ALJEM05026 -

Yo Tannenbaum!
Holiday jazz by Gordon Goodwin. This adaptation of “Oh Tannenbaum” is quite an adventure, offering a chorale, some Basie style, and fast and furious Goodwin bebop. Solo space for alto and tenor sax, trumpet and trombone. Optional flute for 2nd alto sax. Lead alto has either a standard alto part or an optional part for alto with a soprano double. A very exciting chart as performed by the Big Phat Band. (5:29)SKU: AL24864
