Warner Bros. Publications is proud to bring you the Buddy Rich jazz classic CHANNEL ONE SUITE. This piece was one of Buddy’s signature tunes, and it is now in print for the first time ever. Tom Davis has faithfully transcribed this chart from the original recording. It’s a real challenge, but one your students will love. In order to make this chart more accessible to most bands, we have provided alternate trumpet parts that have been rewritten to omit some of the extreme upper register passages. Composed by the legendary Billy Strayhorn, this is truly one of the masterpieces of jazz. Mark Taylor has beautifully crafted a feature for alto sax using a variety of styles and settings. Basically scored as a ballad, there is a jazz waltz section in the middle. This is followed by a powerful slow swing ensemble shout before returning to the soloist to finish out the chart in the original ballad style. Recorded by Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers on the classic 1961 album Mosaic, this jazz standard shows the harmonically mature writing style of Wayne Shorter along with an intense hard bop energy.
