Hercules vs. the Hydra
The Greek hero, Hercules, was sentenced by the Gods to endure 12 seemingly impossible “labors” in order to redeem himself. This composition portrays the second of these tests—his battle with a nine-headed water serpent with deadly venom and the ability to grow back two heads for every one cut off! This programmatic piece will excite your players and thrill the audience! (3:50)SKU: AL39610 -

Heritage
Heritage was composed by Jerry Brubaker for the 150th anniversary of the New Holland Band of New Holland, Pennsylvania. This is an organization that has a rich musical heritage dating back to 1856! The work is loosely based upon several Pennsylvania Dutch folk songs. The piece begins with a fanfare that sets up a majestic march. There is a hymn-like slower section which echoes the devout nature of the people of Lancaster county. The very festive rhythmic development section is sure to please the percussion section. This work was designed to have universal audience appeal and is a must for any symphonic band program!SKU: AL24784 -

Herndon Exaltations (A Celebration of Excellence)
The opening statement, with fanfare flourish, grows as we are led into development that propels with vigor and force. The composer’s legendary use of percussion and the total involvement of every instrumentalist has never been more pronounced. Gyrating ostinatos weave an almost hypnotic blanket, and the colors and timbral changes are myriad. This exceptional work sounds far more difficult than it plays! (duration 5:48)SKU: ALBD9784 -

Heroes Near and Far
Each of the five movements of this innovative work is designed to invoke a particular type of emotion associated with leadership. Courage is stately in nature and written in a marcato style. Vision is playful in character and focuses on mixed meters as well as mixed emotions. The lyrical and sensitive Compassion is meant to stir the soul, while the contrasting Selflessness offers some of the most intense and demanding music of the set. The energetic final movement Heroes will bring to mind your own favorite superhero! Educator and speaker Scott Lang helped develop the concept for this unique work, and has made available supplemental curricula centered around leadership and character development. This material is tied to the Common Core Standards relating to reading, writing, music, art, and critical thinking. Each movement and its accompanying curriculum can stand on its own, allowing the director the flexibility of using as much or as little as desired. A tremendous resource for today’s teacher! It’s a relaxing addition to any program that will fill imaginations with the vision of lazy days on sunny, sand-covered beaches. “Hey Mon” is the exclamation heard often in that area of the world from the inhabitants there offering their warm hello will have them dancing in the aisles.SKU: AL24733 -

High Five!
Looking for some music to get the audience more involved in your concert? Here it is! A medium-rock groove sets the stage for an eighth-note motive that signals the band and audience to give “high fives” throughout the piece. Soloists on the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and clarinet are featured on two-measure phrases that lead to an exciting “drum-off” between the snare and tom players. Band members and directors are encouraged to use their creativity in the solo section as well as in giving “high fives” to each other and to the audience. A really fun piece! (3:05)SKU: AL29446 -

High Octane
Fire all cylinders! Using the optional synthesizer, this piece takes off and races from start to finish. Some dissonance adds a touch of the Doppler effect as you imagine the sound of cars zooming by. The ending builds with energy as the finish line approaches and completes with a victory lap.
