Crystal Silence
Recorded in 1972, Chick Corea’s Return to Forever album is recognized as one of the landmark albums of jazz fusion. Along with the jazz standard “La Fiesta,” the mesmerizing ballad introduced on this album was “Crystal Silence.” Mike Tomaro does a marvelous job of maintaining the ethereal and lush qualities of the original in this outstanding setting for jazz ensemble. A stunning choice for contest or festivals.SKU: HL7011981 -

Cut the Cake
Scottish funk group, Average White Band, had two major hits that helped solidify the horn-driven funk sound of the ’70s. “Pick Up the Pieces” was released in 1974, and “Cut the Cake” followed close behind in 1975. Signature tunes with catchy horn licks that still sound great today!SKU: HL7011833 -

Dat Dere
Penned by Bobby Timmons and recorded by a number of jazz artists over the years, Dat Dere is a great example of “soul jazz” of the early ’60s. This arrangement for small band features alto sax and trumpet on the head, a section for open solos, and a short ensemble shout at the end.SKU: HL7012962 -

Dreamsville
What a neat idea to turn this Henry Mancini classic into a medium samba groove! Your lead trombonist receives some well-deserved feature time and is joined briefly by the entire bone section. The ensemble “shout” chorus begins with an ingenious unison line played softly to start, before turning things back over to the trombone solo. Nicely done!SKU: HL7011523 -

Duke of Iron
This calypso-flavored composition from Sonny Rollins may not be as well known as his St. Thomas, but Duke of Iron is a distinctive and marvelous tune on its own. Solos are provided for tenor sax and trombone.SKU: HL7012920 -

Ernie’s Romp
Here is a great-sounding chart for featuring a tenor sax and guitar duet (or just tenor sax). Utilizing a medium shuffle grove, this smooth chart also features a dialog between a small group and the full ensemble. The solo section (trumpet, then tenor sax) alternates between a half-time groove and straight ahead swing. Topped off with the powerful shout chorus for the full band!SKU: HL07013464 -

Europa(Tenor Sax Feature)
One of Carlos Santana’s more memorable compositions is this instrumental hit from 1976. Along with Santana’s own recording, the version by saxophonist Gato Barbieri also became a hit that year. Fables of Faubus(Young Edition)
This classic Mingus composition is meant to be performed with a sense of an “anger” or sarcasm, and definitely projects an edginess. The bari sax and bass bone will have fun with the opening and there is plenty for the rest of the ensemble to get excited about as well in this medium swing romp.SKU: HL7011439 -

GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)
Composed in a relaxed swing style, this catchy tune is built up in layers starting with the trombones. Saxes are added followed by the trumpets, and finally the full ensemble gets in on the fun. There are short but flashy feature spots for each section followed by an interlude leading to the open solo section. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
The unlikely treatment in a swing style sets this arrangement apart as Mark Taylor takes Elton John’s familiar hit in a completely new direction. The style alternates between a “2” feel and straight ahead swing, and there are solos for tenor and trombone in addition to solid writing for the entire ensemble. Very effective!SKU: HL7011652
